City crews will pick up those items that are placed in their polycarts or that are properly bundled per city ordinance. Please see FAQ at bottom. Below is a map showing pickup days. All trash should be out by 6:00am the day of your collection.

If your trash does not meet City code requirements, a green tag will be left at your door explaining why your trash was not picked up.

SEMI AUTOMATED TRASH COLLECTION PROGRAM WITH POLYCARTS

The new polycart system is and has been in place since January 2009. Everyone should have a number on their cart, if you would like to verify your number call Veolia Water and talk with the office staff you can also write your address on your cart Should there be a mechanical problem or if our sanitation crew destroys the cart we will replace the cart at no cost to the resident.

Below is a form that may provide you with additional FAQ's.

Why have we gone to a cart system?

Several reasons, mechanical lifting systems reduce injuries, minimizes animal potential to scatter trash and provides a cleaner environment

When may I set out my carts/refuse?

City ordinance requires no more than 24 hours in advance and all containers must be removed within 24 hours of collection day.

Where do I place my cart?

Cart should be placed within one foot of curb or alley with the wheels facing away from the street/alley

May I use containers I already have in addition to my cart?

Yes, however the polycart provided by Veolia should be the primary refuse container. NOTE: Veolia's cart will be the ONLY cart that we will be responsible for damages. No cart over 32 gallon can be used.

What other containers may I use?

Refuse ordinance will allow 32 gallon can or less with proper handles and tight fitting lid. Garbage bags must be 40 gallons or less. Any container with a mechanical lifting device and a proper fitting lid without other commercial logos, may be utilized if Veolia considers this suitable but will not be responsible for damages.

Are there other concerns with wastes being set out?

Wastes to be collected also must be limited to the residence where the waste are generated. Violators may be required to have a special pick up for an additional charge.

What are the limits for additional containers?

From January to March, two additional containers plus carts provided by Veolia. During yard waste season, April thru December, 4 containers of grass and up to 15 bags of leaves will be collected at no additional charge.

What if I have bulky items or exceed container limits?

You must call Veolia Water at 785-238-7142 and arrange for a special pickup. Special pickups must be called in to Veolia Water by 12:00pm the day before your regularly scheduled pickup day

What will constitute a special pickup for fee?

Wastes not properly called in and expected to be collected on their regularly scheduled pickup day. Wastes that are not properly containerized and are scattered about.

What is the charge for special pickups requiring a fee?

There will be a minimum charge of $60.00 per 5 yard load.

Can I set out brushy tree waste?

Yes, if waste fits in cart with lid closed and items aren't to heavy or if it's less than 4 foot in length and less than 1” in diameter, tied and bundled and one person can lift into truck. If greater than 4 feet and less than 6 feet and properly bundled, a special pickup with out fee will be required, If greater then 6 feet and not properly bundled, special pickup fees will be applied.

Is there anything that cannot be placed in the cart?

Items that are not accepted in the cart include hot ashes, tires, wet cell batteries, paints, oil, solvents or other flammable liquids. Dead animals, hazardous materials, or extremely heavy objects should not be placed in the cart

May I obtain additional carts?

Yes, by calling customer service at 785-238-3103

Can I have things sticking out of my cart?

No, lid must close. If items are sticking above the lid the cart can not be mechanically dumped into the truck.

Who owns the cart?

The carts are the property of Veolia Water but you can write your address on your cart inside your lid

What if I do not have a cart?

Please contact Veolia Water at 785-238-7142

Who is responsible for cleaning the cart and how is it cleaned?

The customer is responsible for cleaning the cart. Soap and hot water easily cleans the cart.

How can odors be controlled?

It would be best if all trash placed in the cart was bagged and tied, which will help prevent odor. Washing the cart, as needed, will also help to prevent odor.

What if the cart is broken?

Veolia Water should be contacted as soon as possible. The damage will be examined. If damage is through normal use, the cart will be repaired/replaced. If the damage is from misuse by the customer charges will be assessed.

What if the cart is lost or stolen?

A lost or stolen cart is the customer's responsibility to purchase another Veolia Water cart. You have a serial number ocated on the front of the cart, you can also put your address on the cart itself

Can I have a smaller cart?

Initially, all carts will be the same size. Certain situations my warrant a smaller cart. Veolia staff will evaluate this issue on a case-by-case basis.

What do I do with the cart when I move?

The cart belongs to Veolia Water and will stay at the property when you move.

Are there accommodations for the elderly or disabled?
